Our history
The Africa Climate Action Initiative (ACAI) is an initiative of the Canada-Africa Partnership Network (CAP) that works alongside African nations and their communities on the frontlines of climate change to adapt, mitigate and enhance resilience.
ACAI seeks to build a local network across the continent and build the capacity of individuals in Canada and Africa to respond to climate change by supporting the design, development, resource mobilization, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of programs and projects.
The ACAI promotes the sharing of knowledge on issues related to climate change and for
climate action projects, while mobilizing Canadians and the global public in support of these efforts. In particular, the ACAI:
(1) supports capacity for project development, implementation and monitoring through training, direct support, knowledge sharing and advocacy,
(2) supports resource mobilization through the identification of funding and technical partners, support for grant applications and engagement in collective fundraising for partner projects,
(3) promotes integrated solutions for climate-smart access to water, food, energy and education,
(4) represents partners in various forums and undertakes joint initiatives, events and dialogues to raise awareness and energize climate action,
(5) strengthens implementation and policy development through special programs and multi-stakeholder coordination.
Founded in 2003, the CAP Network facilitates partnerships between Canadian and African communities, providing capacity building and resources to advance local community development efforts.
